Part 3

Alys fired four shots in quick succession two into the wooden wall where one guard was standing, and two into the wall behind the other. She heard them drop, but she was afraid that the suppressor was too loud as she heard a shout from the second floor.
“Well it wouldn’t be a fun game if I knew what I was getting into.” She laughed in response as she opened the door, pistol trained forward. She saw one body immediately, motionless just inside the open door. Only the rags of his clothing were visible. Not much blood. She heard foot-falls on the second floor and quickly scanned the room. She saw the staircase at the far end, and she noticed that it went up and down. She wasn’t aware there was a basement. Maybe that’s where they were keeping Rayna?
“That’s not what I mean Dark Angel.” Kelvin responded. “This game has been modded from its store-bought version, it’s meant for a mature audience. Just don’t go in the basement. It contains— Shit! Hold on, you’ve got company!”
“What?” She turned back to the door just as the body of a guard dropped to the ground. She heard more footsteps approaching, followed by more thuds. She waited a moment, since it did seem like he had it under control, she quickly turned back to her objective. Don’t go in the basement, he says. She smiled. It sounds like a horror movie. Ha ha. Why didn’t he want her to go down there? So what if there’s a monster? She was a badass too! She could now hear someone near the stairs on the upper floor so she quickly crossed the room. The lower area was mostly open space, with a couple of desks and filing cabinets leading up to the steel metal stairwell at the far end. As she neared the stairwell, a beam of light from a flashlight lit the staircase and she could hear someone descending. The beam focused as the figure descended. She moved around behind until she was standing at the top of the staircase leading down. Her vision pierced through the darkness downward until it found purchase on a large steel door blocking all passage. A security panel on the wall next to it, and the vault-like locking mechanism on the door told Alys it must be protecting something pretty valuable.
Alys used the well as cover and descended toward the basement in time with the person descending from the second floor. She got a glimpse of the figure as they turned into the room, ducking just in time to avoid the searching beam of their flashlight. It was a woman, and the flashlight was attached to a pistol. It also looked like she was wearing body armor.
“I’m taking fire, I have to move!” Kelvin reported.
Crap! Too loud! She thought.
The flashlight beam darted back to the stairwell, and she heard the shooter approach quickly. Alys knew that her position was compromised. She had to act fast. She grabbed a dart from her vest and quickly sent it flying towards the hand holding the pistol as soon as the woman reached the landing. There was a yelp and the pistol fell. The light went out as the gun struck the ground. Alys was already in motion covering the distance in a split second katana at the ready.
Her attack missed swishing through only air as the woman ducked and sidestepped the blow with amazing speed. Alys was not expecting that and got hit hard in the side by a solid punch, throwing her against the wall with surprising force. She leveled the katana quickly to thwart the advance of her opponent and pushed forward, this time showing some of her own amazing speed. She delivered a glancing blow sending her opponent back into the center of the room, but the woman did not back down.
“So you must be the bitch that Rayna was talking about.” The woman purred. “Angel something.”
Alys paused. “Where is Rayna? Tell me and I won’t kill you.”
“You’ll meet her soon enough!” She laughed and lunged forward, a dagger in her uninjured hand. Alys narrowly parried the attack receiving a minor cut on her left hand in the process, but was successful in knocking the blade out of her attacker’s grasp.
“I warned you,” she intoned as she prepared for her final strike.
“I’m back.” Crackled Kelvin’s voice in her ear. “How are you doing in there?”
“I’m a little busy.” She replied with a quick tap on her coms, never letting her gaze drop from the unarmed figure before her.
“Okay, the main compound area is clear now.” He continued. “There are a few guards searching the surrounding woods for me. They should be gone for a little while.”
Alys moved in forcing the woman closer to the main door. Suddenly, she noticed a faint green glow at the edges of her vision, slowly growing in intensity. Then, the realization hit her. Crap! She poisoned me!
“What was on that dagger bitch?” She screamed as she lunged forward.
Her opponent back-peddled and tripped over one of the bodies near the door as she advanced. It was only then as Alys struggled to see beyond the green fog that she realized the bodies by the door were not real. They were decoys.
“Oh, just a little sedative of my own creation.” The woman admitted with an evil chuckle. “Nighty night!”
Her katana fell from her hand with a clang, and it took Alys all of her strength to simply tap her coms. “Night Wolf, they have me,” was all she could say before her mic went dead and everything faded to black. The only sound she heard was that of a heartbeat.

“Shit!” Jill exclaimed disappointedly as she watched the timer slowly decrease as the game loaded the next scene. “I got captured.”
“What happened?” Came a shout from another room of the house.
“They poisoned me!” She shouted back, wiping sweat from her brow. “It’s a setup! They were waiting for us!”

LOADING…

So what will become of Dark Angel?
Will Kelvin save the day?
Or will Alys save herself?
What’s in the basement?
Will anyone read this?

Send me your thoughts or your own version of the next part. I've set the foundation, but the storyline could go any number of directions.
I would need to hear from someone in order to continue further.

Part 2

Alys neared the outer wall, inspecting the bodies of the fallen guards. She grabbed their IDs and checked the caliber of their ammunition. Not useful. She frowned. Since her advantage was stealth and agility she only carried a silenced pistol, and rarely used it. Her primary weapons were the katana on her back, and the knives at her side. She moved the bodies to the shadows and then scurried to the base of the wall simultaneously removing her backpack. Reaching in, she produced the first of the three explosive charges she carried. She knew exactly where to place it. There was a guardhouse near each gate, and thermal scans showed one guard in the building and two standing nearby. She just needed to silently place a charge on one of the buildings to secure her exit.
As she crept nearer to the eastern gate the voices of the guards grew louder. Their thick accents made it impossible to understand what she was hearing, but she heard no alarm in their voices so she figured they hadn’t yet missed their two comrades. Without hesitation she placed the charge on the back wall of the guardhouse and set it to timer mode. She keyed in 20:00 minutes, and armed the device. That should be enough time, she thought as she slowly crept away from the nearby guards. Before long she was crouched at the base of southern wall a safe distance from the guardhouse. She kicked her right heal into the ground and a small blade popped out from the toe of her boot. She then did the same thing with her left foot, took two steps back, and then ran at the wall.
The blades on her toes dug into the concrete just enough to propel her light form upward, and in three bounds she had reached the top. She had to clear the barbed wire before she could cross over, but she had planned for that as well with a set of wire cutters secured neatly to her forearm. She also knew that the spot-lights never crossed the upper section of this wall, so the break in the wire should not be noticed. Snip! Snip! The wires fell away, and she was able to safely roll over the top of the wall and drop down into the shadows of the inner compound unnoticed.
She breathed a deep sigh of relief. “Okay,” she whispered to herself in satisfaction. “Phase one complete.”
The inner compound was littered with pallets of wooden crates, several rundown shacks, and a couple of covered trucks. No doubt containing the contraband this drug lord was peddling. There was ample cover as she darted from shadow to shadow, carefully avoiding the path of the crisscrossing searchlights.
She made her way to the generator shed without incident, setting her remaining two charges as she moved. She could hear the generator rumbling as she neared the building, but had to stop short to let a nearby sentry move out of earshot before proceeding. Looking down at her watch, she could see that there was about minutes remaining on her first timer. She couldn’t any other delays.
She looked from the pallet she crouched behind and could see that the door to the generator shed was in plain sight of one of the towers; its searchlight crossing the door every few seconds. The door had a security lock, so she grabbed one of the dead guards’ ID s, waited for the light to cross the door, took a deep breath and then bolted to the door. She quickly waved the ID at the security panel, there was a beep, and a green light flashed. At the same time she could hear the clunk of the door unlocking. As quietly and quickly as she could, she opened the door and disappeared inside. The searchlight crossed the entry just as the door closed. She stopped before closing it completely leaving it slightly ajar. Phew! That was close! She thought with a hard exhale. She turned, and her eyes quickly scanned the darkness of the shed.
The shed smelled of gasoline and exhaust, and the generator itself took up the majority of the space, rumbling loudly. A barrel and a couple of gas cans stood nearby, and an electrical panel was attached to the wall next to her with a line running to a master switch by the door. She checked the cans and found that one was empty and the other full. She then studied the generator. It was a simple enough design; a single fuel tank feeding a combustion engine. Easy enough to disrupt, but she knew that the power going was going to raise suspicion. The snipers would surely focus their attention on the shed once the lights went .

“It sure would be nice to have someone acting as over-watch about now.” Jill stated loudly, hoping that Jack would overhear.
“One more minute!” Came his reply from a distance.
She sighed, she didn’t have a minute. This whole thing had to be over in less than ten minutes or she was a goner. Granted, it was just a game, but she had worked hard on her character and she didn’t want to lose what she had gained. Jack knew that too. work!

Alys knew that she needed to time the generator shutdown with a quick exit. She removed one of her daggers and covered the blade with her sleeve. She watched as the light of the searchlight passed the door and then struck the generator’s fuel line hard with the covered dagger. It broke immediately, and fuel started to accumulate on the floor. The generator began sputtering and she briskly made for the door. By the time she reached the door handle the generator had died completely. She heard a shout erupt from outside, and knew she had to move fast.
She opened the door quickly so it would bounce shut behind her and broke for the cover of the nearby pallet. No sooner had she ducked into the shadows when a figure ran past her, heading for the shed. She watched as he stupidly waved his badge at the dead security panel, then realizing his error began searching his pockets in a frenzy. She popped her head up slightly to glance at the nearest tower. As expected there was a sniper watching the other guard fumble for his keys. Though he was pretty far away, he was not out of her range. She grabbed a throwing dagger and braced herself for a tough throw.
“Hey babe, I’m back.” Suddenly crackled in her earpiece. “Give me a second to get into the tree.”
Finally!
“We only have a few moments,” she whispered in her coms. “I just broke their generator. You need to clear the towers.”
“On it.” Kelvin confirmed.
A peek at the guard by the shed confirmed he had unlocked the door and had just stepped into the building. Her reflexes kicked in. Without thinking, the dagger leapt from her hand with lightning fast agility. The door to the shed began closing, the dagger passed by, and the door closed completely. She heard the thud of the body, and then quickly looked to the tower. She knew she was exposed. The sniper had his rifle lifted and he was sighting her in. This is it! She thought, but suddenly the man’s whole body lifted up and flew backwards out of sight.
“There’s one.” Chirped Night Wolf.
“Good timing!” Dark Angel replied as she made her way quickly to the door of the two-story building.
“There’s two.” Confirmed Night Wolf. “Not bad considering we can’t all see in the dark like you can.”
“Ha ha, shut up!” She giggled. “I know you were using night vision. I’m at the door of the large building. Can you see me?”
“Affirmative.”
“Okay, I’m going in.” She said as she stepped back a few feet from the door and lowered her thermal goggles. Two heat silhouettes, just as she had seen from the tree. She raised the goggles, and drew her pistol.
“Wait a sec—“ Shouted Night Wolf. “You don’t know what you are walking into!”

I’ve never blogged before, but I’ll give it a try. A short story might be the best way to start since I like to write. Maybe something exciting and edgy that the community can help with? Nothing like an unfinished story to get the creative juices flowing.
(Pardon the lack of indentations. Turns out, this interface removes them)

For now I’ll it…
The Virtual Adventures of Jack and Jill..

Part 1
THE COMPOUND

Alys was a creature of the night; always hunting. She could move from shadow to shadow like a ghost, just as her master had taught her, and on this night she would need to do it with perfection. Her prey was a powerful man, and he would be well guarded. Any slip-up could result in her death, or worse, her capture. She eyed the compound from her perch in the surrounding tree cover. Two sets of armed guards patrolled the exterior walls with barred gates at each end. She could probably scale the outer wall, she thought, but she was certain Kelvin would not be able to follow. Where was he?
“Night Wolf, you copy?” She whispered, tapping her coms.
Silence.
She continued her scan of the compound. Two towers with lights and snipers covering a central two-story building. She lowered her goggles and switched to thermal scan. Two figures stationed at the door, and at least three on the second floor. More than likely her prey was one of them. She panned the exterior of the building. There was a large of heat emanating from a nearby shed. That was probably the generator, she thought. A plan started to form in her mind. If she could knock that , it could work to her advantage. Maybe she didn’t need Jack as a backup? Where the fuck was he?
“Night Wolf you copy?” she whispered, then frowned.
“Night Wolf, please respond.”
That’s when she heard the suppressor, twice in short order. It was coming from in front of her, closer to the compound. Just as she lifted her goggles she saw the two guards patrolling the south side drop to the ground.
“Good evening, sweetheart!” Kelvin cackled, “Did you miss ?”
She smirked and shook her head, simultaneously lowering the volume of her ear piece.
“You’re late,” she scolded, “And stop fucking around, you know my sign, use it.”
“Yes mistress… I mean roger that Dark Angel.” He replied. “What’s the plan?”
She smiled but wasn’t done complaining. “The plan? Well, now that you have taken two guards we don’t have very long to come up with one do we?”
“Now who’s fucking around D A?” Kelvin quipped. “I know you better than that. You already have a plan, and those two guards were not going to be back in that spot for another 20 minutes. I figure we have maybe minutes or more before they’re missed.”
She did have a general plan, she just didn’t have the time to refine it. “We need to switch positions,” she explained. “I’m in a tree about 30 meters to your five o’clock.”
“Why don’t you come to me?” He asked. “Aren’t we going in?”
“I’m going in, you are providing over-watch.” She replied quietly. “I don’t think you can make it over the wall, but I can. It’s a suicide mission storming either gate. This is going to require more finesse.“
“Bad idea Angel. This is a bad dude!” He argued. “You could end up like Rayna.”
Alys nodded. Rayna was a scout, a.k.a. White Owl. She was sent in to gather intelligence the day before, but failed to report back. If she was still alive, there was a good chance she was locked up somewhere in that compound. Alys knew that Rayna’s rescue was a secondary objective, but she wasn’t about to leave her behind.
“We don’t know what happened to Rayna.” Alys responded as she quietly slipped down from the tree. “If she is in there, I’ll get her out.”
“Ninja to the rescue!” Kelvin laughed unconvincingly. “, there’s something you should know about this pla—“ His voice suddenly cut out.
“Night Wolf? Do you copy?”
“Night Wo—“ She started but was startled when a voice suddenly erupted behind her.

“Hey Jill, I‘m getting a phone , I’ll be right back.”
“Come on Jack!” Jill scolded aloud, as she reached up to stabilize her Virtual Reality headset. “We can’t pause this game, its multiplayer! And we’re on the cloc—“
“I’m sorry, its work, and I have to take it.” He apologized as his voice in real life trailed off.
Jill frowned as she watched her character creep closer to the compound walls. “Fine!” She said her breath. “I can do this myself for now.”
